The Size of the Task Ahead

You have been privileged and called to pray.

The nature of Prayer is that it does not weaken or fatigue with use but, rather, strengthens and matures with use.Perhaps you would like logic to encourage your prayer ministry.  Here are some thoughts regarding entering into this call to support the mission by your prayer.

Prayer will help the church and Christians to fulfill the Great Commission.
It is very simple.  The workers for which Jesus said, “pray” are those whom He also sent and whom He told “Go.”

The enormity of the challenge: Reggie McNeal said, during a conference, that the Christian Church is adding 80,000 converts each day.  At first glance, that is an exciting thought, and we do praise God for each convert.  However, considering that there are at least four billion people in the world who do not know Jesus (and that number is likely low), do you realize that at that rate it would take 137 years if everyone were to come to faith.  That is only if there is zero population growth. It is the Father’s will that all come to faith.

Let’s narrow our task to the Texas District.  There are 500,000 people coming to live in our state each year.   These are in addition to the 26 million who already live in Texas.  Since 83% of the Texas population will not attend a worship service in any given week, our local and district task is enormous as well.  This is absolutely beyond our ability.

Prayer is the place that will calm our anxious hearts about the size of the mission.  Prayer is the place that will encourage and embolden us to move out in mission.  Prayer is the beginning of the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

Thank you for your prayer support.
