John 17 - Jesus Prays for Unity

One of the tremendous benefits of praying for the mission of the church is the unity of the church. The reality is that prayer will help to unify the church for the task of evangelism.

Our American culture offers a multitude of points of division and differences. Criticism of differences abound. That same culture of criticism has invaded the church. We tend to focus on differences rather than on unity. We often criticize the variety of styles of worship and forms of ministry that are used in other places. Such criticism divides us from each other. However, there is something that we have in common, namely the call to bring the Gospel, by which we have been drawn into the church, to people who do not know Jesus.

Jesus prays for the unity of the church. This is recorded in John 17.

The unity of His body on the basis of the mission of Jesus, namely "to seek and to save those who are lost," is a powerful unity. This is the unity that is to be sought for by disciples of Jesus and cherished for the sake of the mission. Such unity reveals the heart of Jesus and His love for all people.”

Thank you for your prayer support and for pursing unity of mission in the church.
